Jan Cook is in her
16th year at the Public Service Commission as Commissioner,
Place 1. She was first elected to the Commission in November 1990.
Cook was re-elected
in November 1994 and again in November 1998. She is now serving her fifth
four-year term to which she was re-elected in 2006. She came to the Commission after eight years as State Auditor. In 1982, she became the youngest person ever elected State Auditor in Alabama. During that election, she polled more votes than any other candidate running for state office. Before running for State Auditor, Cook was a member of the City Council in her hometown of Dozier in Crenshaw County. She attended Auburn University, earning a degree in Political Science. She has done graduate work at both Troy State University and Auburn University at Montgomery. Cook is a life member of the Alabama League of Aging Citizens and holds honorary memberships in the Future Homemakers of America and Delta Kappa Gamma. She holds an honorary State Farmer's degree and has been selected as Beta Sigma Phi's Woman of the Year. She is a member of the Dozier Methodist Church. |
